Herpes Zoster

Herpes Zoster or Shilgles is caused by Varicella Zoster virus, the same virus that causes chicken Pox.

Signs & Symptoms

  • Pain
  • Blisters
  • Ulcers
  • Red mucosa
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Limited to one half of the body-does not cross mid line of the body

Treatment

There is no curative treatment of Shingles, but palliative therapy should be given to ease the life of the patient during recovery period. Symptoms usually subside within 2 weeks time. The treatment should include.

Acyclovir, Famcyclovir, Valacyclovir


Antiviral


Anti-inflammatory, Analgecis

Diclofenac, Ibuprofen


Anti-convulsant & Anti-depressant


Antipruritus


Capsaisine


Local anaesthetic gel
