Crown and Bridge: Types of Dental Crowns

Introduction

A crown is provided to protect the weakened natural tooth, regain its shape, maintain or enhance the esthetics and regain the functional ability of a person. A bridge is a prosthesis that is constructed to replace the one or more missing teeth and is supported by the neighbouring teeth.

Contact Point/Area of the Teeth

Definition   

The proximal contact points or the area refers to the surface point or area where the proximal surfaces of neighboring teeth come in contact. Contact point/area is usually found in the occlusal one third of the natural crown of most of the teeth.
